Artists with an eye for the miniature will be showing at the ‘Well Hung Gallery‘ in Hoxton. Playing on the notion of surprise, scale and dimension. The artists are all well known for their use of space and positioning particularly through site specific street art and installation.
Whilst many artists on the street are all about going bigger. For some it’s about creating miniature scenes and going altogether smaller in scale. Most are of course known to us here on Inspiring City. With the likes of HIN and Pablo Delgado in particular having spent some years in London.
HIN
HIN works in street art, painting, sculpture, illustration & animation. London based but from Hong Kong originally. He creates satirical, child like paintings filled with thought-provoking messages about the world today. From politics and war to society and popular culture. His art is meant to impact and to shock with it’s disarming simplicity.
Isaac Cordal
A Spanish artist currently living in Brussels. Cordal uses miniature sculptures called Cement Eclipses and places them on the street as a criticism of modern society. His themes comment on politics, bureaucracy, human misery, climate change and power. Often unobserved by the passer by, you’d need to go out of your way to find them. You can still see some of his works left over in towns such as Aberdeen and Blackburn.
Joe Lurato
A multidisciplinary artist whose works are built on a foundation of stencils and aerosol. Joe Lurato’s work falls somewhere in between simplistic and photo-realistic. More known along the neighbourhoods of the East Coast of America. He’s more recently become known for his unique placement and photography of miniature painted wood cutouts in public spaces. Utilising the outdoor environment to create site-specific installations. Each individual work of art highlights the potential for interaction and storytelling within a public space and transforms common land or cityscapes into carefully crafted scenes.
Miss Printed
Born in the Netherlands but now living and working in Norway. Miss Printed is an artist filling the gap between collage, photography and street art. Miss Printed makes small paper collages and photographs them in an outdoor setting creating intriguing and unique scenes. Combining her paper collages with nature and outdoor elements such as water, fire, snow, wind and sky. She then leaves her paper cuts behind, leaving bits of sanity for others to reflect upon.
Pablo Delgado
A Mexican artist who moved to London 9 years ago to pursue his career in art. He’s only recently moved back to Mexico. His miniature, iconic pieces of art can still be seen on the walls of London’s East End. Consisting of tiny doorways which expand into detailed narrative scenes. He meticulously depicts a host of people, animals and objects in miniature. His style is also known for the distinctive black shadows that he casts on the pavement in black paint. Pablo Delgado is interested in story telling through his art and the scenes that he creates are always beguiling and humorous with different layers of meaning.
Slinkachu
Slinkachu has been “abandoning” his miniature people on the streets of cities around the world since 2006. His work embodies elements of street art, sculpture, installation art and photography and has been exhibited in galleries and museums globally. Creating unique scenes with his little people. Each will be carefully crafted to not only find the right location but also to re-create the tiny little figures needed for each unique shoot.
